Frequently Asked Questions

As of 7/1/2025

1. What is Top Student?

Top Student provides academic coaching, mentoring, and life skills support for high school students, college students, and young adults. We help students get organized, improve grades, prepare for college and the workforce, and build confidence through mentorship. Our services are also valuable for students who are doing well academically but want the added benefits of mentorship, accountability, and life skill building.

2. Who do you work with?

We work with:

  • High school students who need structure, skill development, and college preparation.

  • College students who want to stay on track academically and plan for their next steps.

  • Young adults who are building independence, preparing for careers, or navigating life transitions.

3. What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

Top Student is not therapy. While mental health topics may come up, our sessions do not include diagnosis or treatment. Instead, we focus on practical skills, mentoring, and goal-setting. If clinical support is needed, we refer out to licensed mental health professionals.

4. How do packages work?

Packages include multiple sessions at a reduced cost compared to single sessions. Clients choose from several tiers (6, 12, or 16 sessions) based on their goals. Payment plan options are available for packages to make services more accessible. Packages encourage consistency and allow us to track progress more effectively.

5. Do you offer single sessions?

Yes. Single sessions are available for urgent needs like test prep or short-term support. However, packages provide the best value and more consistent outcomes.

6. What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We require 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or no-shows are charged in full. Each client is allowed a one-time waiver for a late cancellation without penalty. For full details, please see our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

7. How do payments work?

Payments are processed securely through our online platform (Practice.do). Clients also have access to a personal client portal, where payment details can be updated and billing history viewed. For package options, payment plans are available.

8. What happens if I don’t finish my package?

If you stop before completing your package, we offer pro-rated refunds:

Refund = (Original Package Price) – (Standard Price of Sessions Completed) – (10% Administrative Fee)

For more information, please review our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

9. Do you work with parents or just students?

For high school students, parents are usually involved in the initial intake. After intake, students are expected to take the lead and attend individually, which helps promote independence and life skills in line with Top Student’s goals. Parent check-ins can be scheduled at an agreed-upon interval to provide updates and collaboration. For college students and young adults, the relationship is more student-led, though parent involvement is welcomed when appropriate.

10. Do you offer support during summer or between semesters?

Yes. We have programs for summer and between-term coaching that focus on life skills, wellness, and planning for the next school year.

11. How does mentorship fit into coaching?

Mentorship is a core part of Top Student. We emphasize growth in mind, body, spirit, and philosophy while supporting academics. Students receive both accountability and guidance in building habits that last.

12. Where are sessions held?

We offer sessions in-person at our Stamford office, virtually, or a hybrid of both.

📍 112 Prospect St, Suite 301, Stamford, CT 06901

13. What if I need special accommodations?

We are committed to accessibility. If you need accommodations, please contact us and we will work with you to ensure full participation in our services.
